Game Of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie credits actor Simon Callow with saving her from a career slump by employing her as an archivist as she struggled to break into movies. The British actress studied at a drama school in London, but was frequently warned by tutors that she would find it tough to land many roles because of her towering height of six foot three inches (1.9 metres). Christie began to fear she had chosen the wrong career, but a morale-boosting offer of work from Callow made her more determined to succeed, and she has now thanked him for standing by her when others were predicting disaster. She tells British magazine Elle, "He showed me great kindness, the like of which I hadn't known, and he genuinely, without being dramatic, kept me alive at certain points of my life. And I don't think he's even aware of it... (Because he believed in me) as an actor. As an artist. And I don't mean that in a pretentious way, I mean as in someone who had something to say."
