Director Arthur Rankin Jr. dead at 89

Director/producer Arthur Rankin Jr. has died at the age of 89. The Thundercats producer passed away in Bermuda on Thursday (30Jan14), following a short illness.
Rankin Jr. began his career as an art director for the American Broadcasting Company in the 1940s.
In the 1960s, he started his own production company, Videocraft International, with his director/producer pal Jules Bass.
He was best known for his animated works, such as Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, The Last Unicorn, King Kong and The Hobbit animated TV movie, which earned him a Peabody Award in 1978.
He is survived by his actress wife, Olga Karlatos, and his two sons.
