The pain and disappointment Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine went through after he was fired from Metallica has been detailed in the lyrics of a new song recorded by a singer/songwriter friend. The real story of his departure has never been told - until now, and fans have former Loudmouth singer Robert Rolfe Feddersen to thank for the truth. His new track, Dave's Lament, is the first song ever written about the widely-known but never discussed heavy rock tale. Feddersen was inspired to write the tune while touring with Megadeth in the mid-1990s, while Mustaine was still trying to come to terms with the sting of his dismissal from the Enter Sandman hitmakers. The songwriter says, "Dave's Lament is a folk rock song about Megadeth & Metallica. (Metallica drummer) Lars Ulrich had a record label that wanted to sign my band, Loudmouth. I got to spend some time with him going to Metallica shows and actually got to play onstage with them. They played one of my songs called Not Free, which was mind-blowing. "A few years later, I found myself on tour with Megadeth. Dave Mustaine and I hit it off almost immediately. Getting to know Dave, I became aware of just how hard his life had been and how much getting kicked out of Metallica affected and afflicted him. "This is probably one of the biggest stories in heavy metal that has not been written about yet in song. It’s my interpretation of how it all might have felt to Dave."
