British pop star Joe Mcelderry was named winner of a U.K. reality TV winter sports competition this week (beg03Feb14) after two finalists pulled out due to injury. The singer was a last minute addition to the line-up of The Jump when he was drafted in to replace socialite Henry Conway who withdrew after breaking a bone. He found himself in the final on Monday (03Feb14) after Olympic rower Sir Steve Redgrave and actor/comedian Marcus Brigstocke pulled out of the competition due to injury just hours before the finale. McElderry triumphed over another stand-in, journalist Donal MacIntyre, who replaced injured model Melinda Messenger. The show was plagued with injuries, with several stars pulling out before it even went to air.
