A novel written by late movie icon Charlie Chaplin has been published for the first time. The silent movie star, who died in 1977, is believed to have started writing the book, titled Footlights, in 1948 and it went on to become the basis of his 1952 film Limelight. The text tells the story of a romance between a young ballerina and an ageing clown in London, and it has now been published in full for the first time with the permission of Chaplin's family. The novella launches at an event in London on Tuesday (04Feb14) attended by veteran actress Claire Bloom, who made her big screen debut in Limelight with Chaplin.
