Poet Maxine Kumin dies at 88

Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Maxine Kumin has died at the age of 88. The author passed away on Thursday (06Feb14) at her home in Warner, New Hampshire after struggling with health issues for the past year.
Kumin wrote more than three dozen books during a career which spanned more than five decades.
She penned early children’s literature, such as 1961’s Summer Story and 1969’s When Grandmother Was Young, and fiction like Through Dooms of Love in 1965 and The Abduction in 1971.
However, she was best known for her works of poetry, which included The Long Marriage (2001), Connecting the Dots (1996), Where I Live: New and Selected Poems 1990-2010, and Up Country, which earned her the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1973.
She also served as the U.S. Poet Laureate from 1981 to 1982, consulting officials at the Library of Congress.
Her final book, And Short the Season, is set for release later this year (14).
