Retired U.S. sportsman-turned-TV pundit Darren Sharper has been accused of drugging and sexually assaulting seven women in four different states. The former American football star has been charged with two counts of rape and five other drug charges in connection with two incidents in October (13) and January (14). At least three other women and one man have accused Sharper of drugging them, according to records. Three of the alleged sexual assaults occurred on two consecutive nights. The NFL Network presenter made a brief court appearance in Los Angeles on Friday (14Feb14), but did not enter a plea. His arraignment has been scheduled for 20 February (14) and he was ordered to surrender his passport and to stay in Los Angeles. He remains free on $200,000 (GBP125,000) bail. Speaking outside court, his attorney Blair Berk told reporters, "We look forward to the true facts being revealed in this case and we are hopeful that Mr. Sharper will be fully exonerated before this case is concluded." Los Angeles County prosecutors claim that two of the women accusing him of sexual assault met the former Green Bay Packers and New Orleans Saints player at a West Hollywood nightclub in October (13) and he invited them to a party. Sharper allegedly stopped off at his hotel room on the way and gave the women something to drink. One woman claims she blacked out and awoke naked to find Sharper sexually assaulting her. The former footballer, who retired from professional sports in 2011, was arrested on 17 January (14). If convicted he faces more than 30 years behind bars.
