Scottish singer Susan Boyle has explained her decision to apply for a job in a betting shop at the beginning of the year (14), putting the bizarre move down to a "desire to be normal". The I Dreamed a Dream hitmaker sparked fears her music career had taken a downturn when she was spotted applying for a position at a branch of bookmaker Ladbrokes in her hometown. Boyle has now explained what drove her to pick up an application form, revealing she was struggling to deal with fame at the time. She tells the London Evening Standard, "I just went in on the off-chance. It was kind of a desire to be normal. And it was a quiet period. I just got panicky (about fame). But I wouldn't want to scrap the job I already have (music). I absolutely love it."
