Mariah Carey and pregnant actress Olivia Wilde are among the stars who were left stunned on Wednesday morning (12Mar14) after a gas explosion in New York led to the collapse of two residential buildings. The massive blast in East Harlem ignited a raging fire which left at least two people dead and more than 50 others injured. Emergency services rushed to the scene of the explosion, which occurred minutes after a gas leak was reported to local utility suppliers, and it took 250 firefighters hours to put out the flames. As the news unfolded on local TV news stations, Carey took to Twitter.com and wrote, "Praying for the safety of everyone in East Harlem. My thoughts are with you", while Precious star Gabourey Sidibe posted, "The explosion in Harlem is so scary. I grew up in Harlem. My heart goes out to the injured and those who lost their lives." Actress Wilde, filmmaker Kevin Smith and The Hangover actor Ken Jeong also sent prayers to the victims of the incident, while rocker Brett Michaels paid tribute to the first responders working at the site. He tweeted, "Thoughts & prayers go out to those affected by today's #NewYorkCity building explosion as well as the brave @NYPDnews (New York Police Department) & @FDNY (New York City Fire Department)..."
