Long-running German variety show Wetten, Dass...? has been cancelled. The programme, which regularly attracts A-list Hollywood and music stars and features them betting on the antics of regular people, has been on the air since 1981, but it will end in December (14), according to bosses at German public broadcaster ZDF. Madonna, Will Smith, Michael Jackson, Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, Justin Bieber and Tom Cruise were among the superstars who hit the studio for the top-rated programme. Wetten, Dass...?'s high came in 1985 when over 23 million viewers tuned in to watch a special. The show's low came in December, 2010, when an aspiring 23-year-old stuntman became a quadriplegic after suffering a horrific accident live on air, while trying to jump over five moving cars. The live broadcast, which was to feature Bieber, was cancelled. Ratings have been sliding for years and February's (14) show sank to a ratings low of less than six million viewers. Saturday night's (05Apr14) special brought in less than seven million.
