Pop star Miley Cyrus is glad she is "free" of her former fiance Liam Hemsworth and admits she previously feared she couldn't live without a boyfriend.
The former Hannah Montana actress/singer became engaged to her The Last Song co-star in 2012 after three years together but they split last year (13). She has since gone on to spark fears for her future by swapping her squeaky clean image for a more raunchy public persona, but Cyrus is adamant she no longer suffers "anxiety" about not having a man in her life.
In an interview with U.S. Elle magazine, she also details the bullying and depression she suffered as a youngster and recalls one incident in which her country singer father Billy Ray Cyrus had to break down a door at their family home to comfort his distraught daughter.
According to People.com, she tells the publication, "When I was with (Liam) or when I was on Disney, the thing that gave me the most anxiety was not knowing what to do with myself when Disney wasn't there to carry me anymore or if I didn't have him. And now I'm free of both of those things, and I'm fine. Like, I lay in bed at night by myself and I'm totally okay, and that's so much stronger than the person three years ago, who would have thought they would have died if they didn't have a boyfriend."
Turning to her depression battle, Cyrus adds, "It's totally okay to feel sad. I went through a time where I was really depressed. Like, I locked myself in my room and my dad had to break my door down. It was a lot to do with, like, I had really bad skin, and I felt really bullied because of that. But I never was depressed because of the way someone else made me feel, I just was depressed."
