Jazz musician Wayne Henderson dies at 74

Jazz musician Wayne Henderson has died at the age of 74. Henderson passed away after suffering heart failure at a Culver City, California hospital on Friday (04Apr14).
An accomplished trombonist and composer, Henderson and his childhood pals formed the Jazz Crusaders in the late 1950s and they became one of the most notable and influential groups on the Los Angeles jazz scene in the 1960s.
In 1974, Henderson left the Crusaders to pursue a career as a producer, and worked with the likes of Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers and Joni Mitchell.
In 1995, Henderson spearheaded a reunion with the Jazz Crusaders and he has played a number of gigs with the supergroup in recent years.
He is survived by his wife Cathy, and their two sons, Wayne Jr. and Randy.
