Stars including The Sopranos actress Jamie Lynn Sigler and Blur bassist Alex James gave their backing to an international campaign aimed at bringing country life to the city on Wednesday (09Apr14). The Be A Farm Hero campaign was launched by bosses behind new mobile game Farm Heroes Saga, who commissioned research revealing many city dwellers long for the relaxation of rural life. Musician-turned-farmer James was recruited to host a pop-up farm in London's Canary Wharf city district, where he encourage office workers to try their hands at growing their own vegetables. James says, "I completely understand the lure of country life having made the switch from city living myself. The opportunity to grow your own fruit and veg shouldn't be limited to those who live in the country. Farm Heroes Saga brings a taste of the country to the city. Urban farms are a fantastic escape from the concrete jungle and it's been brilliant to raise a few smiles from the... farm in Canary Wharf." Sigler was joined by TV personality Vanessa Lachey for the launch of the game at New York's Flatiron Plaza, and she encouraged New Yorkers to join her in embracing urban farming. Sigler tells Examiner.com, "I really like the whole urban farming idea, because I grow my own produce in L.A., and I think it's great to teach people here in Manhattan so they can do the same. It's easier than you think, it's a lesson. You have to take care of it, it's a living thing, but it's rewarding when you see things grow and to enjoy them. It's important."
