Actress Daryl Hannah was left terrified on Sunday (11May14) when her private jet lost cabin pressure mid-flight, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing. The Splash star, who has a crippling fear of flying, was travelling to Austria to visit a solar energy facility when an alarm sounded to warn passengers and crew of a sudden drop in cabin pressure at 10,000 metres (32,800 feet).
Oxygen masks were released so the terrified passengers could breathe, and the pilot had to make an emergency landing at Klagenfurt airport in Austria. Hannah tells German newspaper Bild she was "breathless" during the ordeal, saying, "I'm already scared enough of flying, when suddenly the oxygen masks appeared. Luckily nothing happened."
A photograph taken on board the plane shows the panicked actress and Austrian entrepreneur Martin Kristek wearing oxygen masks. It is believed the in-flight problem was due to ice in the cabin door seal of the jet.
The actress was clearly grateful be back on land after the scare - she posted a picture on Twitter.com showing her feet on the ground, alongside the caption, "on earth...#lovelife".
