British politician George Osborne was given a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the new Star Wars movie during a visit to the set to confirm plans to film a spin-off movie in Britain. J.J. Abrams' new installment of the sci-fi franchise, Star Wars: Episode VII, is currently being filmed at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England, and Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer has now confirmed a spin-off will also be shot in the country in 2015. Osborne made the announcement during a visit to the set where the new Star Wars film is being made under a veil of secrecy, and he was treated to a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the blockbuster along with Culture Secretary Sajid Javid on Tuesday (10Jun14). He praised the filmmakers for giving the British economy a major boost, saying, "Lucasfilm and Disney's decision to shoot the Star Wars standalone movie in the U.K. is testament to the incredible talent in Britain. This will mean more jobs and more investment. It is great news for people working at Pinewood Studios, from the set designers to the carpenters." Javid adds, "This is great news for the U.K. and is further proof of the world-leading position of the U.K. film industry. We have studios, tax incentives and talent, both in front of and behind the camera, which are amongst the very best in the world. Given Lucasfilm's decision to film another Star Wars movie in the U.K., it is clear that the Force is strong here." Star Wars: Episode VII is slated to hit cinemas next year (15).
