Barbra Streisand addressed politicians in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday (11Jun14) to call for more research into heart disease in women.

The veteran singer/actress is a longtime campaigner for the cause and even set up the Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center at the Cedars-Sinai Heart Institute in Los Angeles in 2012 in a bid to improve standards of care and promote early diagnosis. Streisand took her campaign to Capitol Hill this week (beg09Jun14) by teaming up with expert cardiologists to address two committees and call for more funding into the condition.

The star says in a statement, "A woman's heart is different from a man's, yet women's hearts are under-researched, go untreated and are misdiagnosed. Together, we can change that... The time is now... We cannot let another year pass when another 400,000 of our fellow women die because these disparities aren't addressed."
