The Libertines' huge comeback show at London's Hyde Park on Saturday night (05Jul14) was repeatedly halted over safety concerns as dozens of fans were crushed and rioting broke out in the crowd. Fans at the British rockers' show told how hundreds of revellers leaped over barriers into a premium viewing area at the front of the stage as helpless security workers battled to stop them. Eyewitnesses reported seeing event staff being attacked by rowdy gig-goers and there were reports of fireworks thrown into the crowd. Several fans were seen clambering up the delay tower, forcing organisers to project a message onto the stage backdrop asking them to climb down. The band stopped the gig several times in the first 20 minutes as the concert turned increasingly chaotic, sparking fears it would be abandoned. Dozens of fans were tended to by medics after they were pulled from a crush at the front of the crowd. The Libertines split in 2004 before reuniting for several shows in 2010. After another hiatus, they reformed earlier this year (14) and played two gigs in Scotland last month (Jun14) ahead of their huge Hyde Park concert.
