Nadine Gordimer dead at 90

Nobel Prize-winning novelist Nadine Gordimer has died at the age of 90. The South African author, who also won the 1974 Booker Prize for her work The Conservationist, passed away at her home in Johannesburg on Sunday (13Jul14) after a short illness. Gordimer began writing stories in her childhood and had her first book published at the age of 15. She went on to write more than 30 works, including July's People and My Son's Story, and was also a vocal opponent of apartheid. Gordimer was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1991, with organisers praising her "magnificent epic writing".
