ABC News bosses in the U.S. have apologised for posting a live stream video from outside tragic actor Robin Williams' home in Marin County, California following his death on Monday (11Aug14).

Fans of the funnyman took to social media on Monday night to criticise the network executives' decision to air footage from the late star's residence, where his body was found just before lunchtime.

The live stream was posted on ABC News' website for less than an hour before it was taken down. A spokesman for the network tells The Hollywood Reporter, "When we realised there was no news value to the live stream, we took it down immediately. Our intention was not to be insensitive to his family, friends and fans, and for that we apologise."
