Joe Sample dead at 75

Veteran musician Joe Sample has died at the age of 75. The Crusaders pianist, who co-wrote hits including One Day I’ll Fly Away and Street Life, passed away on Friday (12Sep14) at a medical centre in Houston, Texas from complications due to lung cancer.
He was a founding member of the Jazz Crusaders, who changed their name in 1971 to The Crusaders and went on to find great success, most notably with 1979’s Street Life, which featured Randy Crawford on vocals.
Sample also enjoyed a solo career away from The Crusaders, playing on recordings by other stars including Eric Clapton, The Supremes, Miles Davis, Steely Dan, and B. B. King.
