Latino scholar and author Juan Flores has died, aged 71. The New York University professor, who authored books like From Bomba to Hip-Hop, was born in Virginia and attended Queens College and Yale University.
He changed his name to Juan and dedicated his life to the study of his Puerto Rican heritage.
He was director of Latino Studies at New York University.
He died on 2 December (14) from complications of autoimmune disease Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
