Opera singer Janis Martin dead at 75

Opera singer Janis Martin has died at the age of 75.

The soprano passed away in San Antonio, Texas on 13 December (14) following a long battle with diabetes. 

Martin began her career in 1960 at the San Francisco Opera in California. She later moved to New York, where she won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition in 1962. A few days after winning the competition, she made her debut at the New York City Opera and went on to perform at the Metropolitan Opera. She also graced the stages of various opera houses across the world, including in Germany, Austria, France and Italy.
