New Romantic icon Steve Strange dead at 55

Eighties pop icon and club boss Steve Strange has died, aged 55. The Visage frontman suffered a heart attack and passed away in Egypt, according to a spokesman at his record label, August Day Recordings.
The label manager says, “We are extremely saddened to announce that Steve Strange died at 11.15 local time on Thursday February 12 in Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital, Egypt… Steve’s family, band members and friends are all distraught at this sudden news of his untimely death.”
As well as scoring hits with Fade to Grey and Mind of a Toy, Strange, real name Steven John Harrington, managed top London club Blitz, where bands like Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet played their first gigs.
His agent Pete Bassett tells the Press Association Strange’s death comes as a “great shock”, adding, “We understood that he had certain health problems but nothing we knew was life threatening. His friends and family are totally shocked, we had no idea anything like this was likely to happen.”
