Atlantic Records co-founder Miriam Bienstock dead at 92

Miriam Bienstock, who co-founded Atlantic Records with her first husband Herb Abramson and Ahmet Ertegun, has died in New York, aged 92. The label’s original production and business manager passed away on Saturday (21Mar15), according to Billboard.com.
She took charge of accounts linked to Big Joe Turner and Ray Charles when the company opened for business in the late 1940s, and was responsible for paying artists.
Abramson and Bienstock were bought out by Ertegun and Jerry Wexler in 1953, but she stayed with the company as label vice president and president of its music publishing arm, Progressive Music.
She later wed music publisher Freddy Bienstock, who became Elvis Presley’s top song scout.
Ironically, Miriam would produce the London musical Elvis in 1978. She was also an investor in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, which won two Tony Awards last year (14).
