The former Cold Feet star returned to his native Northern Ireland on Tuesday (08Jun10) to take on the prestigious role at the college where he once began a French degree but quit to pursue his dream of becoming an actor.
The presentation ceremony took place at the Riverside Theatre in Nesbitt's home town of Coleraine, the venue where he made his acting debut more than 30 years ago when he auditioned for a part in Oliver.
Nesbitt told the crowd, "It is an extraordinary honour, especially after all those years with my father sitting out there in front of me. It's the greatest honour I've received. This university is expanding. It's very modern and fresh, and they've taken a rather modern and fresh approach to the role of Chancellor."
