Rebel Without a Cause star Allen dead at 75

He died from natural causes in Hollywood on Sunday (27Jun10).

Born Alan Cohen in Cleveland, Ohio, the star began his career as an actor and landed his big break in 1955 when he starred as Dean’s nemesis in the classic Nicholas Ray film. He was the last of the main Rebel Without a Cause stars to die.

Allen’s other acting credits include The Night of the Hunter (1955), Darby’s Rangers (1958) and The Chapman Report (1962).

He went on to establish himself as a prolific TV director and won an Emmy Award in 1984 for his work on an episode of U.S. police drama Hill Street Blues.

Allen also took charge of shows like The Rockford Files, Magnum, P.I., Murder, She Wrote, Hawaii Five-O and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

He last worked on episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in 1994.
