The 79 year old was fuming when he was left out of last year's (09) revamped movie, which starred Chris Pine as a younger version of the famed starship captain and included a cameo appearance from Shatner's former co-star Leonard Nimoy as an older Spock from the future.

Shatner has previously insisted he would convince his pal, Star Trek director J.J. Abrams, to feature him in the next installment, but the star has now accepted it would be too difficult to explain his appearance in the upcoming film.

He tells Collider.com, "I've become a buddy of JJ, but I don't know if they can solve the problem of how you put the body I'm in now with the Kirk that we remember from 40 years ago."
