The Oscar-nominated actor passed away at a hospital in Shropshire, England after a lengthy illness, and his fellow British movie stars paid their respects after the sad announcement on Monday (03Jan11).
Shaun of the Dead actor Nighy, who started his career at the same theatre as Postlethwaite in the 1970s, tells the BBC, "(He was) a rare and remarkable man... I was honoured by his friendship - he is irreplaceable."
Austin Powers star Hurley writes on Twitter.com, "Very sad news re Pete Postlethwaite - I worked with him and he was a fantastic actor and a great guy..."
Funnyman Stephen Fry also took to his Twitter blog, writing, "The loss of the great Pete Postlethwaite is a very sad way to begin a year", and British socialite Peaches Geldof adds: "RIP Pete Postlethwaite. An underrated legend."
