The Curb Your Enthusiasm star, 45, is promoting Go Red for Women, urging U.S. citizens to show their support for the cause by wearing clothes in the rosy colour on Friday (04Feb11), during National Heart Month.
She admits she only underwent a health check when her dad, James, suffered a near-fatal heart attack, and Hines was shocked when she did her research and discovered heart disease is the number one killer among women across America.
Speaking on U.S. breakfast show Today on Friday (04Feb11), she said, "My father had a heart attack a few years ago and it was very traumatic, of course. He's fine now, he had open heart surgery. We found out he had heart disease and he stopped smoking. He's taking care of himself now and is back on the golf course.
"When something like that happens to you and you literally almost die, I think you really evaluate your life and think, 'Is it worth it?'"
And Hines is encouraging other women to get regular check-ups and get healthy to put a stop to the spread of the disease.
She continues, "When my father had his heart attack, I really had to look at my heart health and I really watch things now, like my cholesterol; that was really high. So I exercise more. (Heart disease) can be prevented."
