Thousands of demonstrators have taken to the streets of Cairo in the past few weeks to call for the resignation of president Hosni Mubarak, who has been in power for 30 years.
They've clashed with Mubarak supporters, resulting in several deaths, and Khoury admits she's been left stunned by what is happening in her city.
She tells The Hollywood Reporter, "Everything is shut down; life is at a standstill. People are glued to their TVs."
Khoury attempted to show her support for the Mubarak protesters by handing out blankets as they spent time camped out in the Tahrir Square area.
However, her efforts were hampered by Mubarak's supporters, who attacked her car.
The star explains, "It was an extremely traumatic experience. People in the street saw the car full of blankets and guessed who they were for. The whole street attacked us with unbelievable violence and people started banging on the windows.
"Finally I was taken in a truck to an army checkpoint and sent home."
