The Weinstein Company backed director Julian Schnabel's 2010 biographical picture about Hind Husseini's effort to establish an orphanage in Jerusalem.
Weinstein insists he felt compelled to attach himself to the project in a bid to raise awareness of global hostilities - and he hopes the movie will help cinema-goers understand the current conflicts over power in Libya and Egypt.
He tells Piers Morgan Tonight, "Friends of mine who are Jewish say, 'How the hell can you be involved in a movie like this?'
"The simple answer is if you don't tell the story from both sides you will never understand everything we're watching in Libya, Egypt, etc.
"I know you're not supposed to be political but you can't exist in this world if you aren't. This is an important movie and I don't care how controversial or how many people tell us not to show it, it makes me more determined."
