Mark Kerrigan was arrested after his 70-year-old dad Daniel was found unconscious in the kitchen of the family home in Massachusetts. Officials ruled Daniel died from cardiac dysrhythmia after suffering a neck injury during a physical altercation shortly before he passed away.

He pleaded not guilty to counts of manslaughter, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on an elderly person and causing serious bodily injury.

On Wednesday (25May11), a Superior Court jury in Woburn cleared the 46 year old of manslaughter, but found him guilty of the two lesser charges after three days of deliberations.

During the brief trial, prosecutors alleged Mark became embroiled in a heated dispute with Daniel over the use of the telephone and punched his elderly father so hard it triggered his heart failure.

Mark will be sentenced on Thursday (26May11).

Speaking after the verdict was delivered, former sportswoman Nancy condemned the jury's ruling.

She told reporters, "My family has never believed that my brother had anything to do at all with my father's death, and my dad never would have wanted any of this."
