Sturgess over-prepared for The Way Back role

The British actor threw himself into his role as one of the Siberian Gulag escapees who reportedly walked 4,000 miles (6,400 kilometres) to freedom in India.

But after devouring history books and interviewing camp survivors, Sturgess realised he had put too much pressure on himself when he turned up on set alongside co-stars Ed Harris and Colin Farrell.

He explains, "I felt like I was holding the entire Polish history on my shoulders, and I lost my confidence completely. It took me a while to get back on track, because I'd over thought it way too much."
