Police investigating Ferguson threats

Aug 24, 2011 | 5:00am EDT

The Scottish comedian, who presents CBS' The Late Late Show, was sent a letter containing a mystery "white powder" on Tuesday (23Aug11), and TV bosses called in officials.

In a post on his page, Ferguson writes, "Ack! Someone mailed my show white powder & claimed it was anthrax. I'm not a big fan of that sort of thing. Thanks FBI & LAPD & LAFD & CBS security."

Officer Karen Rayner, of LAPD media relations, tells E! News, "The Major Crimes unit is handling the investigation. The letter did contain some threats directed at Craig Ferguson. They will be working with the FBI and our counterparts in Europe to investigate the crime."

Police believe the letter was mailed from a mystery location in Europe.

It is the latest drama for a U.S. chat show host - David Letterman received a death threat earlier this month (Aug11) after he poked fun at accused terrorist leader Ilyas Kashmiri on his show in June (11).
