Estevez teamed up with his actor father Martin Sheen to shoot the adventure film, which chronicles one dad's spiritual journey as he recovers his estranged son's body, who died while travelling along the El Camino de Santiago.
And Estevez admits he was inspired to take on the project and head to Spain to shoot the movie after his real-life son Taylor met his future wife during a trip there in 2003 - and never came back.
He recalls, "A young woman came out... She took one look at my son, my son took one look at her, they fell madly in love, and he's been living there for the last eight and a half years. They are now married, and it was first miracle on the Camino for us.
"My father told me that if I want to see my son again I should consider writing a film about the Camino, and I should cast him in it."
