The presenter has outlined her fertility struggles with husband Bill Rancic in their reality series Giuliana and Bill, but now the beauty has revealed she's currently facing a more serious health battle.
Announcing the news on U.S. breakfast show Today on Monday (17Oct11), Rancic explained, "Through my attempt to get pregnant for the third time through IVF (in vitro fertilisation), we sadly found out that I have early stages of breast cancer... Sadly we've had to put that (IVF) off because of the news.
"When we went to do the third round of IVF, this doctor... said, 'You need a mammogram,' and I said, 'Why? I'm 36 years old... I'm too young.' And he said, 'I don't care if you're 26 or 36... because if you get pregnant (all the hormones) can accelerate the cancer.' And so I went and got a mammogram... I never expected in my wildest dreams that anything would be wrong... And I went and they called me the next day and they said, 'We need you to come back, we see something.'
"It was just a kick in the stomach. And I knew something was wrong... That was definitely the hardest day. I went in to a hospital in L.A. and when they came in to tell me, they said it pretty quickly. And they just said, 'I'm sorry, but you have breast cancer.' I just remember, it's what you would expect, but so much more. It was incredible instant sobbing and it was like the world just crashed down around me."
But Rancic has assured fans her prognosis is positive, adding, "I will be OK because I found it early. I'm doing surgery this coming week and then I go to radiation for six-and-a-half weeks. I'm not gonna give up, I want that baby. And what's amazing is that that baby will have saved my life... Had I gotten pregnant, a few years down the line I could be a lot sicker."
