This morning, Nick Cannon told his listeners that he is quitting his 92.3 NOW (WXRK) radio show. Cannon openly revealed on air, "The news is out. This job is killing me," explaining that it's "what I need to recuperate for my body to get stronger...these are the hours I need to be sleeping."
Cannon was briefly hospitalized last week with two blood clots in his lung and an enlarged right ventricle, which is what lead to his decision to slow down and cut back on his work commitments. In fact, his doctor told him he was lucky to have survived the health scare. Cannon remarked, "My doctor was like, 'Luckily, you're in shape, because most people who get blood clots in their lungs can't breathe and they stop breathing, like, for ever.'"
But through it all, Cannon sees this is a great opportunity to get to spend more time with his twins, saying, "I always miss breakfast [with the twins] because I'm here at work. So now I get to give 'em breakfast." And while his co-host Sarah Lee is saddened by the news, she says completely understands. She told Cannon, "Your babies love you so much. I'm gonna miss you--but now you get to spend time with your beautiful babies and your beautiful wife…"
The radio station has since issued a statement saying, “We have nothing but respect and understanding for Nick’s decision to step down from his day-to-day position. Everyone at the station and all of the CBS Radio family wish him well.”
But don't worry, he's not completely going under the radar and will continue to host the syndicated Cannon’s Countdown, as well as his main TV gig, America’s Got Talent. Let's just hope he gets the proper rest he needs to make a full recovery.
