James CameronIn case you haven't noticed a theme in his feature films, documentary projects, or various secret dolphin rituals, director James Cameron, 57, loves the ocean. So, as strange and intriguing as it is, it's really no surprise that he recently manned the first solo submarine expedition to the absolute deepest point in the ocean.

Cameron — who is the famous helmer of sea-themed projects like Titanic, The Abyss and Aliens of the Deep — traveled to the deepest part of the Pacific Ocean's Marina Trench, nicknamed the Challenger Deep spot. He traveled in the Deepsea Challenger, a submarine that Cameron and his own team created.

The director reached the point at around 6 p.m. ET on March 25 marking his arrival with the following Tweet: "Just arrived at the ocean's deepest pt. Hitting bottom never felt so good. Can't wait to share what I'm seeing w/ you @DeepChallenge."

Cameron discussed his submarine expedition during talks about the upcoming Avatar sequels. Cameron's box office legend Titanic is re-releasing theatrically in 3D on Apr. 4.
