Katy Perry and Russell Brand may have split over seven months ago, but it wasn't until today that they were actually legally divorced. E! Online reports that the former couple — who were married for a mere 14 months — are no longer a part of each other's lives now that the court officially gave the OK to sanction the separation on Monday.
So why did it take so long? Apparently, the couple only reached an agreement about their divorce back in February but, per California law, they had to wait a full six months for the union to actually be dissolved. Perry, 27, and Brand, 37, got married on October 23, 2010, and Brand shockingly filed for a divorce the following December, citing irreconcilable differences.
And while the ex-duo only officially became single today, that hasn't stopped either of them from jumping back into the dating pool. Back in March, Perry was spotted cozying up to the hot French model Baptiste Giabiconi and then, just a month later, was seen packing on the PDA with Florence + the Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd at Coachella. For his part, Brand was linked to the Hungarian model Nikolett Barabas in March.
The two seem to be getting on just fine in their separate lives despite the year's rocky beginning. Between Brand hosting the MTV Movie Awards and Perry becoming a full-blown movie star, they seem to be keeping themselves rather busy.
Hollywood.com has reached out to both Perry and Brand's reps for comment and have yet to hear back.
