Music is a fundamental part of Fifty Shades of Grey. From Anastasia rocking out with Christian Grey to highly suggestive pop rock, to author E.L. James' own indirect recommendations for "music to sex to," aural pleasure is the backbone of the popular erotica tome. James has published tracks on her website that have inspired segments of the book. But it makes sense that, with the frenzy surrounding the first book of her S&M trilogy, she would take the musical obsession one step further with a complete album.
Deadline reports the author is working with EMI Classic to compile a 15-track classical music album to accompany Fifty Shades. As a wise man once said: "Sex is always hotter with a little Mozart in the background" (actually, that wise man may have been Christian Grey). While Baroque symphonies may be right up E.L. James' alley, we here at Hollywood.com decided to piece together the ultimate Fifty Shades of Grey-inspired playlist for immediate listening. If you haven't read the book, don't fret — the line-up is a solid listen and should give you a rundown of what to expect from the sexually graphic novel. For further evidence of how well this playlist works with the source material, scroll down for the annotated track listing, paired up appropriately with actual lines from James' novel. Beware: it's super sexy.
1. "Heat of the Moment" - Asia
"No man has ever affected me the way Christian Grey has, and I cannot fathom why. Is it his looks? His civility? Wealth? Power? I don’t understand my irrational reaction. I breathe an enormous sigh of relief. What in heaven’s name was that all about?"
2. "Then He Kissed Me" - The Crystals
"He lunges at me, pushing me against the wall of the elevator … His other hand grabs my ponytail and yanks down, bringing my face up, and his lips are on mine. It’s only just not painful. I moan into his mouth, giving his tongue an opening. He takes full advantage, his tongue expertly exploring my mouth. I have never been kissed like this. My tongue tentatively strokes his and joins his in a slow erotic dance that’s all about touch and sensation, all bump and grind."
3. "Sex on Fire" - Kings of Leon
"'My taste is eclectic, Anastasia, everything from Thomas Tallis to the Kings of Leon. It depends on my mood. You?'"
4. "Helicopter" - Lil Scrappy
"'Do you always impress women this way? ‘Come and fly in my helicopter’?' I ask, genuinely interested. 'I’ve never brought a girl up here, Anastasia. It’s another first for me.'"
