Looks like will.i.am's newest musical stunt is...out of this world! (Warning: many space puns ahead.) The Black Eyed Peas co-founder has teamed up with NASA of all places (was Spotify booked up for the week?) to premiere his new intergalactically-themed new tune, "Reach for the Stars."
In a press release from NASA, the government agency explains that after an educational discussion geared at students to explain the recent findings of the Mars Curiosity rover, "members of the team that successfully landed the rover on Mars earlier this month will explain to students the mission and the technology behind the song's interplanetary transmission. will.i.am will then premiere "Reach for the Stars," a new composition about the singer's passion for science, technology and space exploration."
Which, OK, let's back this bus spaceship up really quick. Will.i.am wrote a song called "Reach for the Stars" and its about his passion for science and space exploration? Does he understand that just because he thinks his band has megastardom on lock (which, ugh), doesn't mean that aliens in space know or care about him?
Sure, we haven't heard the song yet, but let's take a look at will.i.am's track record, shall we? If Black Eyed Peas lyrics are any indication, the aliens that will likely intercept (believe!) the song transmission are going to be seriously concerned for the mental capacity of us silly little humans. We could look like sitting ducks! The aliens will think we're an easy target and I'm not saying that it would definitely happen, but I mean, an intergalactic war isn't totally out of the question, you guys. And we don't have the strength of Bill Pullman's Independence Day speech to inspire us to victory. I'm just looking out for us, you guys. Let's look at the evidence, shall we?
