Given the ominous and cryptic nature of the reports on comedian Bernie Mac’s ailing health a couple days ago, no news is probably good news.

That’s the current scenario regarding the 50-year-old’s condition.

On Monday, rumors were rampant that Mac, star of several movies as well as his eponymous Bernie Mac Show, had passed away following sources’ claims that he was in "very, very critical" condition.

It came a day after Mac’s beleaguered publicist Danica Smith issued the following, rather vague statement that shot down a then-smattering of death reports: “Bernie Mac is still alive and being treated in a Chicago hospital for pneumonia and is expected to make a full recovery. (He is) responding well to treatment and will be released soon."

Smith went on to say that Mac’s hospitalization for pneumonia was unrelated to his decades-long battle with immune-system disorder sarcoidosis, which has been in remission since 2005.

Mac has multiple projects in the works, including 2009’s Old Dogs, in which he is to star alongside John Travolta and Robin Williams.

The Chicago-born actor/comedian also had a role in two movies set for release this November: the highly anticipated Madagascar sequel and the Samuel L. Jackson-starring comedy Soul Men.
