Finally, we get to hear from Rihanna. The singer has released a statement thanking fans for their support.

The statement reads, "At the request of the authorities, Rihanna is not commenting about the incident involving Chris Brown. She wants to assure her fans that she remains strong, is doing well, and deeply appreciates the outpouring of support she has received during this difficult time."

The Los Angeles Police Department has launched an official investigation into the matter to determine how a photograph of a badly bruised Rihanna was leaked to the press, which appeared on TMZ.com.

The  image features a close-up of what appears to be the singer with heavy bruising on her forehead, a swollen nose and a bloody lip.

Rihanna's father, Ronald Fenty, is furious the photograph has been leaked, telling People.com that it shows "sloppy work on their (LAPD) part."

Fenty also tolds US Weekly he hopes some good will come out of the leak, adding the public will now be able to "grasp the situation a lot better".

He adds, "Yeah, I saw it. It's disturbing. It's good and it's bad to see the picture because there's other people who were thinking differently, that (the injuries) may not be that bad, just a little spank or a little thing."

Rihanna returned to her native Barbados last week; Brown is facing possible jail time after he was charged by the LAPD with making criminal threats following the heated argument.

Earlier this week, Rihanna's cousin Yvonne Fenty told reporters the star was doing well, and her injuries were not as "as bad as people make them sound".

Brown released a statement on Sunday admitting he was "saddened" by the incident, and that he was seeking solace in getting counseling from his pastor and his family.
