Actor Cory Monteith, who stars as Finn Hudson in FOX’s hit show Glee, has checked himself into rehab for substance abuse.
People first reported the news, and reached out to Monteith’s rep for a statement. The 30-year-old actor "has voluntarily admitted himself to a treatment facility for substance addiction," his rep tells People. "He graciously asks for your respect and privacy as he takes the necessary steps towards recovery."
The actor’s long-time girlfriend, and Glee co-star, Lea Michele tells People that she is there for Monteith one hundred percent. "I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this," she tells people. "I am grateful and proud he made this decision." The Glee couple took their relationship public last April and are currently filming their fourth season on the FOX musical hit.
In a 2011 interview with Parade Magazine, Moneith admitted that he has struggled in the past with substance abuse and admitted himself into rehab when he was 19. The actor hoped that his honesty with help others avoid the paths that he has traveled in the past.“I don't want kids to think it's okay to drop out of school and get high, and they'll be famous actors, too," he told Parade. "But for those people who might give up: Get real about what you want and go after it."
Monteith took to Twitter a few days ago with a very positive message saying that he was “truly seeing the forest for the trees. #gratitude”.
