Justin Timberlake may be a tease, but at least he doesn't keep us waiting for too long. Just two days after hinting at the release of a new single called "Take Back the Night," Timberlake has made good on his word. What a nice little happy Friday surprise!
While the song unfortunately does not seem to be about the national anti-sexual violence rally like we hoped it would be (drat!), the lyrics do empower listeners to take initative and go after what they want (granted, they seem to want to have sex and dance all night). "I wanna do something right/ But we can do something better/ Ain't no time like tonight," Timberlake sings.
Following in the vein of The 20/20 Experience, "Take Back the Night" is has a head-bobbingly groovy melody backed by a big band — the brass section is killer — and syncopated percussion. Timberlake's vocals and his signature falsetto help to bring the throwback tune up to date. While I still may prefer "Suit & Tie," I've now played "Take Back the Night" four times back-to-back — so clearly my main man Justin's doing something right.
Now, are you sure we have to wait until September for The 20/20 Experience: Part 2, JT?
