Spears' Cousin Tells the Truth About 2008 'Breakdown'

Britney Spears' cousin and former assistant insists the press and emergency services made far too much of the incident that sparked the pop star's alleged breakdown at the beginning of 2008 -- stating the singer just wasn't ready to end a visitation with her sons.

Spears caused a media circus when she allegedly locked herself in the bathroom of her Hollywood Hills home with her youngest son Jaden.

But Alli Sims, who was dismissed and sent packing from the family compound when the singer's father Jamie took control of her affairs, is adamant that neither Britney nor her son was in any danger -- and those who gathered outside the home should have been more understanding.

Sims tells news show Access Hollywood, "She had kids fast, there was a divorce going on and that's a lot for a young person to handle."

And the former Spears assistant insists the singer confided in her about her decision not to hand over the boys to their father Kevin Federline's security guards.

Sims adds, "She was just like, 'I just wasn't ready for them to go home.' It was a mom just being protective... It's weird when you have kids three days a week and you're used to having them all day, every day."

And the pop star's cousin has dismissed reports that Spears suffered a breakdown before she was committed to a UCLA Medical Center psychiatric ward, adding, "She was fine, honestly."

And despite the fact that Sims is no longer close to Britney, she'll never say a bad word about the pop star or her mothering skills.

Even when she was subpoenaed to testify at Spears' "brutal" child custody trial, she insists, "There was nothing bad to say."
