Taylor 'Too Devastated' To Talk About Jackson's Death

Jun 26, 2009 | 5:10am EDT

Michael Jackson's closest friend Elizabeth Taylor has refused to comment on the tragic icon's death -- insisting she is too devastated to pay tribute to her late pal.

News of Jackson's death has shaken the world following reports that he had suffered a fatal cardiac arrest at Los Angeles' UCLA medical center on Thursday.

Friends, family and fans have taken to the airwaves in an outpouring of grief, paying homage to arguably the most famous performer in history.

But screen veteran Taylor, who coined the phrase King of Pop as she presented the star with the Artist of the Decade award back in 1989, is too grief-stricken to comment on his untimely demise.

A representative for the Oscar winner, "Dame Elizabeth Taylor is too devastated by the passing of her dear friend Michael Jackson to issue a statement at this time. We will direct her words to you once we receive them."

And another of the "Thriller" hitmaker's closest female friends, Brooke Shields -- who reportedly enjoyed a fling with the star in her modeling heyday -- has also been left "overcome with sadness" at the news.

She says, "My heart is overcome with sadness for the devastating loss of my true friend Michael.

"He was an extraordinary friend, artist and contributor to the world. I join his family and his fans in celebrating his incredible life and mourning his untimely passing."
