The event, organised by the Artists for Peace and Justice charity, brought together numerous stars who all share an interest in the micro-blogging site, with many taking the stage to talk about their 'Tweets', 'Twitpics' and 'Twitvids'.

Moore showed off the video she posted on Twitter last year (09), which saw her sporting a toothless smile while she underwent treatment, and her husband Kutcher gave guests a view of a YouTube.com video which praises the rise of the website.

Stiller read his all-time favourite 'Tweet' to the crowd: "On a remote island vacationing, really enjoying dropping off the grid, totally disconnecting from the world," while Justin Long poked fun at portly Precious star Gabourey Sidibe in his chosen message, "Christian Bale lost 80 pounds to play The Machinist. Big deal. Gabourey Sidibe lost 300 to play Precious."

The night also saw readings from The Hangover star Ed Helms, 24's Mary Lynn Rajskub and Mad Men actor Rich Sommer.

Tickets to the gala were sold to benefit aid efforts in earthquake-ravaged Haiti - the event was also recorded and will be made available to download on the iTunes website to help raise cash for charity, according to the Los Angeles Times.
