The Brokeback Mountain actor was found dead in his New York apartment in January, 2008, after suffering an accidental overdose.

His mother Sally Bell and sister Kate celebrated his memory at the Australians in Film Breakthrough Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday (13May10), when they watched as actor Colin Farrell presented newcomer Bella Heathcote with the second Heath Ledger Scholarship, a fund established in his honour.

But the actor's relatives confess they can't bring themselves to see any of his movies, and Kate regularly 'talks' to her late brother.

She says, "He is alive in my heart and in my head. Every day I talk to him. (But) we haven't been able to watch any (of his films)."

Bell adds, "We find that too difficult."

Ledger's last movie, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, was released last year (09). The tragic star was halfway through filming when he died, leaving director Terry Gilliam to bring in Farrell, Johnny Depp and Jude Law to complete production as different incarnations of Ledger's character.
