I think it's safe to say we're all a little tired of hearing celebs whine about paparazzi. On the other hand, it must be infuriating to have cameras around to capture your every move. Even the most boring, mundane tasks like Starbucks runs and grocery store trips draw attention. (Sure, Britney’s hair looks like she found her weave in a little girl’s toy box, but give the woman a break. She hasn’t even had her mid-afternoon Frappucino yet, y’all!) Yep, stars buy stuff and go places and walk their dogs, oh my! But now, thanks to Adam Lambert, the whole paparazzi-versus-celebrity narrative just got a little more – dare I say it – interesting.
Most celebs are the victims of paparazzi harassment – they’re even working on laws in L.A. to protect stars from lecherous photogs – but the celebrity isn’t always right. The American Idol season 8 runner-up was photographed in a physical altercation with a photographer in Miami on Thursday. And get this: Lambert may be the next celeb sentenced to singing the jailbird blues.
After Lambert ruffled his feathers, the photog filed a report with Miami police accusing the singer of misdemeanor battery. According to the police report obtained by TMZ, Lambert wrestled the man to the ground in an attempt to grab his camera bag. If the case goes to the State Attorney, Lambert could face a year in jail and a $1,000 fine (but we all know if he goes to jail, they’ll chisel the sentence down to a celebrity-sized measly few days).
With the addition of an unharmed paparazzo’s photographic evidence, I don’t see how Lambert can get out of this one. He tweeted on Friday, claiming, “It was literally harmless. If embarrassment is a crime -- that's all I'm guilty of,” but we shall see. I’m waiting for the chips to fall on this one, but it seems like the singer’s got himself into a tight spot.
